The Function of Berberine
1. Antibacterial
Berberine hydrochloride has a long history of antibacterial medicinal use and is mainly used clinically for the treatment of gastrointestinal inflammation, intestinal parasitic infections, bacterial diarrhea, trachoma and other diseases. Berberine hydrochloride has a synergistic effect when combined with a variety of antibacterial drugs including aztreonam, ceftazidime, and piperacillin-tazobactam.
2. Anti-inflammatory
Berberine hydrochloride has shown good effects in the treatment of acute, chronic, ulcerative inflammation and other diseases. Berberine hydrochloride achieves anti-inflammatory purposes by inhibiting the secretion of pro-inflammatory factors stimulated by lipopolysaccharide.
3. Blood Sugar Regulation
Berberine hydrochloride has antioxidant capacity and can significantly control the development of diabetes. On top of its anti-inflammatory effect, it also improves insulin resistance by inhibiting inflammation. It can also treat type 2 diabetes by affecting glucose metabolism and improve patients' glucose tolerance. Tolerance, the same effect is achieved in improving insulin resistance.
4. Blood Pressure Lowering
The hypotensive mechanism of berberine hydrochloride may be by inhibiting cholinesterase activity, increasing acetylcholine concentration, and stimulating M receptors, thus inhibiting the release of norepinephrine, leading to vasodilation and lowering blood pressure. Berberine hydrochloride can also competitively block alpha receptors on vascular smooth muscle, reduce peripheral vascular resistance, and lower blood pressure.
5. Anti-cancer
In clinical treatment, berberine hydrochloride has a therapeutic effect on esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, colon cancer, etc.
