Inositol is a white fine crystal or crystalline powder, odorless, and has a sweet taste. It's stable to air, to heat, to strong acids and to alkalis. Its solution is neutral to litmus. It does not have optical rotation. 1g inositol can dissolve in 61 ml water. It's hardly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in ether and chloroform.

It's a kind of vitamin B. It has 9 isomers, among which only racemic inositol has physiological effects, mainly used as a nutritional supplement.
