Casing hangers are components that support the casing string when used at the wellhead. Casing hangers ensure the correct positioning of the casing string and often contain a sealing device or system to isolate the casing annulus from upper wellhead components. Casing hangers are a device that allows casing to be set in the wellbore during the oil or gas drilling phase. The installation is outstanding.

Casing hangers come in two basic designs: slip or mandrel.

The slip-on type is traditional and most commonly used. The mandrel type is usually used when special needs arise during well construction. Both allow tens of thousands of pounds of casing string weight to be transferred from the rig's derrick to a load shoulder in the casing head or spool.
