Black oxidation treatment in CNC machining ‌ is a chemical surface treatment technology mainly used for ferrous metals such as steel, aluminum, stainless steel and copper. The principle is to form an oxide film on the surface of the metal to isolate the air, so as to achieve the purpose of rust prevention. Black oxidation treatment can significantly improve the corrosion resistance and rust resistance of metal parts, while reducing the reflectivity and extending the service life ‌.

Specific steps and process conditions of black oxidation treatment

‌degreasing ‌: First, the metal workpiece is immersed in the degreasing solution to remove the oil on the surface. Commonly used oil removal solution formulations include sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, trisodium phosphate and water glass, etc., heated to 80-90℃, soaking for about 30 minutes ‌.

‌pickling ‌ : remove the surface of the workpiece rust and residual oil. Pickling solution is generally 10-15% concentration of sulfuric acid solution, the temperature is 70-80℃, soak for about 30 minutes ‌.

‌oxidation ‌ : The treated workpiece is immersed in the oxidation solution, usually the black process temperature is 130-145℃, the blue process temperature is 550℃. Immersion time is 50-80 minutes, depending on the carbon content of the metal and alloy composition ‌.

‌cleaning ‌ : after the oxidation is completed, the workpiece is cleaned repeatedly with clean water and the washing tank until the alkali trace ‌ is completely removed.

‌saponification or filling ‌ : Finally, the surface of the workpiece may be coated with grease or wax to enhance shine and durability ‌.
