This may limit their application under conditions where the risk of catastrophic or premature failure is higher. The current research work deals with the production of a hot work tool steel (HWTS) reinforced with Partially Stabilized Zirconia (PSZ) aimed at improving the strength of the composite by taking advantage of transformation toughening effect of PSZ. The specimens were produced by Mechanical Alloying and Spark Plasma Sintering using different hard particles fraction (10 and 20%vol. PSZ) and size. The relationship between processing parameters, microstructure and mechanical properties was investigated.
