4 steps for shoe cleaning
Step 1: Shoe classification
There are many types of shoe upper materials that cannot all be cleaned in the same way, so it is necessary to classify them first. Divide canvas shoes and fabric sports shoes into one category, synthetic leather sports shoes and sneakers into one category, and leather shoes also into one category.
Step 2: Wash shoelaces and insoles
Prepare a basin of clean water and pour in laundry detergent. Soak the shoelaces and insoles in laundry detergent water for half an hour. Next, use a laundry brush to remove any dirt from the shoelaces and insoles, and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Step 3: Clean the shoe upper
Unless the shoes are very dirty, it is not recommended to soak them in water, otherwise the rubber or air cushion on the sole of the shoes can easily harden and damage. There are three different cleaning methods based on the material.
1. Cloth shoes. Use a laundry brush or an unused toothbrush dipped in laundry detergent and a little water to brush the shoe upper. If the cloth shoes are very dirty, you can dip a little baking soda powder to remove stubborn stains, and then rinse the shoes repeatedly with water until the upper feels no slippery.
2. Synthetic leather sports shoes. Synthetic leather uppers cannot be cleaned with a brush to avoid damaging the surface. You can use a sponge or cloth dipped in laundry detergent water to gently wipe off dirt, and then use a clean wet cloth to wipe the sports shoes again.
3. Leather shoes. Try not to touch too much water on leather shoes to avoid mold. Prepare a clean wet cloth to wipe off the dust on the shoe upper, then use a unused toothbrush or dry sponge to dip in a little shoe polish and wipe the shoe upper once to complete.

Step 4: Air dry shoes
Regardless of the material of the shoe, try not to expose it to the sun, as high temperatures can cause the sole material to decompose and deform. As long as the shoe is placed in a well ventilated area and dried in the shade, it is good.
1. Do not use bleach to wash shoes, as bleach can damage the material of the shoes and shorten their lifespan.
2. If the washed shoes cannot be worn temporarily, newspapers or shoe braces can be stuffed into the shoes to avoid deformation.
