Sodium dithionite (also known as sodium hydrosulfite) is a white crystalline powder with a sulfurous odor. Although it is stable in dry air, it decomposes in hot water and in acid solutions.

Application: 

AS a reductive it is widely used in printing and dyeing industry, as dyeing assistant for cotton textile, as a bleaching agent for silk, woollen fabrics etc. It is also used in bleach sugar juice, maltose etc. in food industry, as raw material in pharmaceutical industry as well as synthetic dyestuff. In addition, it is applied in copperplate printing process and also as an analytical reagent.
