The Stab-In Float Collar & Shoe presents an enhanced approach for cementing large diameter casing. This method involves directly stabbing the Drill Pipe into the Float Shoe or Collar, allowing for cement to be pumped through the drill pipe until returns reach the surface. To ensure proper placement, a wiper dart can be utilized to displace the cement to the bottom of the Drill Pipe. Subsequently, the drill pipe is lifted, circulated, and withdrawn from the hole.
Furthermore, the use of large plugs becomes necessary to separate the cement from the mud, requiring subsequent drilling to remove both the plugs and any cement present in the casing. The Stab-In Float Collar & Shoe is specifically designed for cementing large diameter casings that are lowered using drill pipe. The unique characteristics of this casing string necessitate special considerations during the cementing process, primarily due to the high displacement volume associated with larger diameters.

The utilization of a small diameter inner string of drill pipe for cement displacement offers several advantages. This method effectively reduces the displacement volume behind the cement, resulting in minimized contamination and time-saving benefits. By controlling the cement top with displacement fluid in the drill pipe and employing a Plunger valve in the Stab-in Shoe, the need for extensive drill-out of cement inside large casing is significantly reduced.
This approach enhances displacement accuracy as the cement mixing and pumping process continues until the cement returns reach the surface. As a result, better cement quality is achieved due to the reduced cement/mud interface area and the high velocity of flow in the Drill Pipe. Additionally, the short pumping time eliminates the requirement for cement retarders, thus minimizing cement contamination.
The Stab-in method also reduces cement volume, eliminating the need for excess cement calculations typically required in conventional displacement. Instead, the excess cement need only be equal to the volume of the drill pipe, significantly reducing the use of large plugs.
By implementing the Stab-in method, net rig time is reduced as circulating, pumping, and drill-out times are minimized. Furthermore, this approach protects the casing as cementing pressures remain confined to the drill pipe, similar to a squeeze job.
Our Stab-in cementing equipment is available in sizes ranging from 4-1/2" to 36". Additionally, the Stab-in cement Float Shoe & Collar can be customized with Double Valve and various combinations to suit specific requirements.
