What's the difference between A Type-A charger and A Type-C charger?

Type-A chargers are older rectangular USB chargers, while Type-C chargers are newer oval USB chargers that charge faster and have higher output power.
Type-A chargers have been in use for decades and are traditional USB chargers.  They have a rectangular connector with four metal contacts arranged in a specific way.  They typically offer a maximum output of 2.5 watts (5 volts at 0.5 amps) to 7.5 watts (5 volts at 1.5 amps).
