What will effect silica matting agent's properties?

Making silica matting agent effective is related to its porosity and particle size.

* Porosity: Normally synthetic silica is hollow particles this means air fills in the silica's mrico structure. High porosity silica 

matting agent will have more silica particles than low porosity silica matting agnt. For coating's usage, using silica matting 

agent with high porosity can provide a better matte effect due to the quantities of silica's particles can effect the glossy.

* Particle Size: silica matting agent's porosity is one features that effect coating's matte effect. But there is another feature 

can also effect coating's matte effect. Silica matting agent has larger particle size will provide better matte effect. Cuase its 

large size can instead air to improve the silica matting agent's porosity in some extend.

The basic matting effect function

Normally coating without adding silica matting agent will perform as mirror state which means it will reflect light that

comes from everywhere. Sometimes it will create vision obstruction. So coating with matting effect is crucial. Please

check the picture as below. There are two different pics and please compare these two pics. First pic is including

a smooth surface and the second pic is including a rough surface.

Coating without adding silica matting agent will perform a smooth surface. When a beam of light is shining to the 

coating's surface, small part will be absorbed and large part will be reflected. The reflection of light will form a large

beam into our sights.Sometimes our viosion will be obstructed.

Coating with adding silica matting agent will perform a rough surface. It can help a beam of light evenly disperse

on the coating's surface which can not create a stronge sight crash. 

Usually what make us to add silica matting agent into coating depends on coating's final usages.

Silicon dioxide is also called as silica dioxide or quartz. It is a common material that used in wood coatings. Below 

is silicon dioxide's using advantages in coating's formulation.

1. Enhance coating's flow ability: silicon dioxide can help to create a smoother transparent film in coating due to it can

disperse evenly in coating.

2. Used as filler: silicon dioxide can be used as filler which can fill the small pores and imperfections in the wood coating. 

It can provide a smooth base for the paint to adhere to.

3. Protective film: small quantity silicon dioxide can provide a protective film on the surface of wooden.

4. Adhesion enhancer: adding silicon dioxide into the coating can help to improve coating's surface adhsive ability.

When you are using silicon dioxide into coating, please follow the guideline as below.

- Choosing high quality and purity silicon dioxide which is mainly designed for coating applications.

- Following the guideline to use silicon dioxide. Adding it to the coating in small increments while stirring thorougly.

- Please according to the normal painting action to paint the coating.

- Please remember that adding inappropriate silicon dioxide might effect the final coating's performances.
