Sight Glass

Sight glass, also known as a level gauge or sight tube, is a device used to observe the level of a liquid or gas in a container without opening the container. Installed between the condenser and the flow restrictor to observe the condition of the refrigerant, the sight glasses used in the ducts measure the level of refrigerant or lubricant flowing within the HVAC or refrigeration system, as well as the amount of liquid contained in the refrigerant at any given moment. By looking at the flow in the sight glass, the technician can tell if the refrigerant is circulating properly in the system, whether there is a blockage or other problems such as running low on the refrigerant, and it can help the technician quickly identify and solve the problem.

The sight glass is installed in the liquid line of the refrigerant to observe the flow of the refrigerant and the gas-liquid phase transition, and to detect the water vapor content in the refrigerant. Installed on the return line to check the flow of lubricating oil from the oil separator. It is usually installed on the high-pressure liquid pipe from the back of the condenser to the front of the expansion valve, and is generally installed at the back end of the filter dried, which not only observes the flow of refrigerant in the pipeline, but also detects the working condition of the filter dried, including whether the water vapor content after drying meets the requirements, and whether the filter drier is blocked after running for a period of time. Sight Glass Refrigeration System Humidity Indication: The indicator element in the center of the sight glass is highly sensitive to moisture, so the condition of the refrigerant in the liquid line in the refrigeration unit and the water content in the refrigerant can be observed through the sight glass, and the sight glass indicator gradually changes color with the change of moisture content in the system. It is also used to observe the flow of lubricating oil from the oil separator in the return line.
