Q: I have a header that is capped with 8" I-Line fittings. The water pressure is 60 psi in this tube. I am trying to learn why they would have designed this with the I line and not just a standard Tri-Clamp fitting. Any information would be appreciated.
A: A lot of dairy applications utilize I-Line fittings. There is no advantage either way between I-Line vs Tri-Clamp fittings other than the tri-clamp fittings are more readably accessible. Since the tube outside diameters is the same, one option you can take is
to remove the current I-Line fitting and weld in place a new tri-clamp ferrule.
Q: I need a quote for one of my customers for some solid end caps. Just wondering what the difference is between the Tri-Clamp end caps (16AMP) and the BioPharm End Caps. Is it just the PL finish?
A: The surface finish on our regular end caps is 32Ra. Bio-Pharm fittings have better finish options available at 20Ra and 15Ra. The lower the number the smoother the finish at a microscopic level.
Q: The pictures of these clamps on your website look like the 100-150 PSI rated versions of Single Pin Heavy Duty Sanitary Clamps (13MHHM). Please verify they are of the service duty listed on your website (500 psi at 70°F. At that rating, they should be the duty equivalent of VNE or Dixon 13MHHM clamps.
A: Those clamps (13MHHM) are the equivalent of VNE or Dixon 13MHHM clamps. The pressure ratings are below and verified as being accurate. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Q: Are sanitary fitting clamps designed to support weight?
A: Tri-Clamp fittings, specifically the clamps, are not designed to be weight bearing. If you are planning to attach a component to your processing line it must be supported by other means. We do offer a line of tube hangers that can be used to accommodate the extra weight. Typically these tube hangers are mounted to the ceiling.
Q: Can you supply these end caps with mirror finish?
A: We can polish all of our fittings to a 20Ra (Roughness Average) finish. They can also be electropolished if necessary. While we don't guarantee you can see yourself in the fittings, they will be extremely bright, shiny and unblemished. Please call us for special orders and we'll let you know what we can do for timing and pricing. Thanks!
