Cottonseed pressing process

1.Pre-treatment:

Cleaning: first of all, the cottonseed needs to be cleaned to remove the impurities in it, such as dust, stones, cotton shorts and so on.

Shelling: The cleaned cottonseed needs to be shelled to separate the shell from the kernel. This step helps to improve the oil extraction efficiency and oil yield.

Separation of shells and kernels: After shelling, the shells and kernels are further separated to ensure that it is mainly the kernels that are processed during oil extraction.

Steaming and stir-frying: The cottonseed kernel is subjected to steaming and stir-frying treatment to soften it and adjust the moisture content to the appropriate range (generally 4% to 6%), so as to improve the oil yield and oil quality.

2.Pressing:

The pretreated cottonseed kernels are fed into the oil press for pressing. The oil press squeezes the oil out of the cottonseed kernel through the action of mechanical force.

During the pressing process, the parameters of the oil press can be adjusted as needed, such as temperature, pressure, etc., to obtain the best oil yield.

3.Filtering and refining:

The pressed cottonseed oil usually contains impurities and solid particles, which need to be filtered. Filtration removes large particles of impurities from the oil and improves the purity of cottonseed oil.

Refining treatment further removes harmful substances and off-flavors from the oil, improving the quality and safety of cottonseed oil. The refining process may include steps such as dephosphorization, deacidification, decolorization, and deodorization.
