As a versatile engineering material that plays an important role in the electronics and electrical industries, G10 and FR4 epoxy sheets, two common types of epoxy sheets, differ significantly in their temperature resistance properties, which directly affects their suitability for specific application scenarios.
 
G10 epoxy sheets are known for their excellent temperature resistance, often able to remain stable at higher temperatures, with heat resistance up to 155°C or higher. This high-temperature stability makes G10 board ideal for insulating components in high-voltage electrical equipment, transformers and motors. In these applications, G10 board is able to withstand prolonged thermal stress without losing its physical or electrical properties.
 
In contrast, FR4 epoxy boards, while widely used in the electronics industry to manufacture printed circuit boards (PCBs), typically have lower thermal performance than G10 boards.FR4 boards, which typically have a thermal resistance of around 130°C, are suitable for most commercial and industrial electronics applications, but may not be the best choice in more extreme temperature conditions.
 
When it comes to material selection, engineers need to decide whether to use G10 or FR4 epoxy board based on the specific temperature requirements of the application. If the project needs to operate in a high temperature environment, the high heat resistance of G10 board will be a key factor. However, for cost-sensitive applications with not particularly high temperature requirements, FR4 boards may provide adequate performance while being more cost-effective.
 
Furthermore, in addition to temperature resistance, G10 and FR4 epoxy boards differ in terms of electrical insulation properties, mechanical strength and processability. the high mechanical strength of G10 boards makes them suitable for larger mechanical loads, while FR4 boards are widely used in PCB manufacturing because of their good processability.
