Many studies have shown that the energy loss of the vehicle is not proportional to the mass of the vehicle, and reducing the weight of the vehicle is an important way to reduce energy loss and increase the range of new energy vehicles. The drive system of pure electric new energy vehicles usually accounts for 30-40% of the total vehicle mass, and the rolling weight of the drive system is one of the key issues to reduce the vehicle weight. The drive motor is the core component of a new energy vehicle and must meet the performance requirements of the vehicle in a limited space. Therefore, designing an efficient, safe and reliable high power density motor in a small space is a key issue that needs to be addressed to reduce the weight of the motor and reduce the energy loss of the vehicle. Engine power density is generally increased in two ways: 1] by increasing the engine torque density and 2] by increasing the engine speed, again with two-way feedback. In this paper, we analyze four aspects of the motor design process, such as stator and rotor structure design, motor material selection, motor losses and temperature rise, and motor vibration noise, in order to achieve a lightweight motor and increase the power density and bulk density of the motor.
The performance of electric vehicles depends on their main component, the drive motor, which forms the design of electric vehicles. The research of electric vehicle drive motor is one of the most important directions of electric vehicle research. The performance requirements for electric motors are: constant torque characteristics below the base speed and high torque overload for fast starting, acceleration, hill climbing and frequent starting and stopping; constant power characteristics above the base speed and high and low magnetic expansion for top speed and overtaking; and optimized efficiency for energy savings in most operating ranges. The design of new energy vehicle drive motors is characterized by limited space throughout the vehicle and an extremely harsh operating environment, which is particularly evident in the design of new energy electric vehicles. The traditional steady-state motor design method cannot meet the complex requirements of EV drive motors and cannot fully demonstrate the characteristics of EV drive motors. Therefore, when designing electric vehicle drive motors, the design parameters of electric vehicle drive motors, such as overload multiplier, low magnetic expansion rate and high efficiency zone, should be fully considered, and the influence of different working conditions on motor design should be analyzed and optimized.
