Introduction

Ganoderma, also known as lingzhi mushroom or reishi mushroom has been used as a medicinal mushroom in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest mushrooms known to have been used medicinally. Ganoderma is listed in the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia and Therapeutic Compendium and is mainly known for its abilities to enhance immunity. It is a remedy for viral infections such as the flu (influenza), swine flu, and avian flu; lung conditions including asthma and bronchitis; heart disease and contributing conditions such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol; kidney disease; cancer and liver disease. Ganoderma is also used for HIV/AIDS, altitude sickness, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), trouble sleeping (insomnia), stomach ulcers, poisoning, and herpes pain. Other benefits include reducing stress and preventing fatigue.
