High Frequency Transformer Working Principle

The basic working principle of a transformer remains the same, irrespective of the operating frequency. It involves the principle of electromagnetic induction to transform voltage, current, or impedance between its primary and secondary windings.

Working principle of high frequency transformer ：When an alternating current flows through the primary winding, it produces an alternating magnetic field within the core. This changing magnetic field induces EMF (electromotive force) into any nearby conductor. In the case of a transformer, the secondary winding that is electromagnetically coupled to the primary via the common magnetic core experiences this induced EMF. The ratio of voltages induced depends on the turn ratio between the primary and secondary windings.

The core material plays a crucial role in a transformer's operation. It provides a low reluctance path for the magnetic flux to circulate. Most importantly, at high frequencies above 10kHz, ferrites have become the dominant core material used due to their much lower core losses compared to silicon steel.
