Pre compression amount of O-ring: the O-ring is installed in the groove. In order to ensure its sealing performance, an initial compression amount shall be reserved. The amount of pre compression with respect to the cross-sectional diameter W is different for different applications. Generally, it is about 15% - 30% in static seals and about 9% - 25% in dynamic seals.
O-ring stretching and compression: when the O-ring is installed in the groove, it will be stretched or compressed. If the values of tension and compression are too large, the cross-section of the O-ring will be excessively increased or decreased, because stretching 1% correspondingly reduces the cross-section diameter W by about 0.5%. For the hole seal, the O-ring is preferably in the tensile state, and the maximum allowable tensile amount is 6%; For shaft seals, the O-ring is preferably compressed along its circumference, and the maximum allowable circumference compression is 3%.
